What is SDA?
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) under the NDIS refers to accommodation for people who require specialist housing solutions, including to assist with the delivery of support that caters for their extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
How can Devcert help with SDA housing?
Specialist Disability Accommodation is already being put on the ground by some of our clients under the current SDA Design Category Requirement Guidelines.
Devcert can provide preliminary desktop SDA design advice, compliance assessments, and site compliance inspections for proposed Specialist Disability Accommodation and will provide the certification required under the SDA Rules as part of the Specialist Disability Accommodation required enrolment process.
When did the SDA design category come into effect?
The NDIS SDA Design Standards for accommodation became available on the 25th of October 2019, however, SDA rules did not become mandatory until 1st July 2021. The industry has started to apply the NDIS SDA Design Standards as it provides comprehensive design details that achieve the required outcomes of the current SDA Design Category Requirement Guidelines.
We continue to produce industry advice for NDIS SDA housing as our clients navigate the minefield of legislation on SDA design. Please find links to relevant SDA NDIS articles below.
