Luminance contrast is established when you compare the measurement of light reflected from one surface, compared to the light reflected from another surface. Almost all surfaces reflect light to some degree but how do you measure it?
Light Reflectance Value (LRV) is a measure of visible and usable light that is reflected from a surface when illuminated by a light source.
How do you find the LRV of a surface?
You go to the manufacturer and suppliers of the surfaces and finishes to get the LRV of a product finish or colour. You will find them on the web sites of paint, aluminum, floor covering, laminex suppliers etc.
Once you you have the LRV of the two surfaces you want to compare you enter them below and our calculator provides the compliance answer
